Poriborton (Employment Creation)

Zoom is an ongoing project in Bangladesh to make the helpless, underprivileged people self-reliant. “Poriborton (Employment Creation)” is one of the projects of the Zoom Bangla Youth Foundation. Under this project, the construction of houses for the destitute, the self-reliance of helpless people, and some other exceptional cooperation are being done.

Through change, Zoom Bangladesh has been able to change the quality of life of helpless people. Zoom Bangladesh not only teaches education to underprivileged children but has also worked for poverty alleviation and support for helpless people since 2016. Along with quality education for children, this heterogeneous project is undertaken to bring long-term sustainable changes in the lives of children. Analyzing the database of more than 600 street children, it can be seen that due to family dysfunction, children come down the street and join in various illegal activities.

At the end of the day, every child comes from a family, and to make long-term sustainable changes in the lives of these children, changes must be made within the children’s families. For that purpose, Zoom Bangladesh is working to make the families of helpless people and underprivileged children self-reliant through the Change Project. Around 250+ families have been made self-reliant through this project so far.

"Anik Alam started dreaming of a new life"

Anik Alam, a resident of Mridhakandi village in Naria upazila of Shariatpur district, lost his home and land due to severe erosion from the Padma River. At 45, he relocated to Dhaka with his wife and children in search of work. In Kamlapur, south of Dhaka, they lived in a tin shed.

However, life in the city presented new challenges. Despite his persistent efforts, Anik struggled to find a job, leaving his family in dire straits. His wife was also feeling the strain. He scoured nearby bus depots for work but found nothing, and there were days when they went without food. Eventually, Anik secured a job at a tea shop, but the meager wages were insufficient to support his family. With help from neighbors, Anik enrolled his child in the Zoom Bangladesh School Kamalapur branch, where the child excelled academically. The teachers noticed the family’s struggles and were impressed by Anik’s commitment. This led to his inclusion in a support project by Zoom Bangladesh, which provided him with a shop in the middle of their initiative.

Now, Anik runs a business opposite Madhumati Cinema, earning between 5,000 and 7,000 taka daily. This income has significantly improved his family’s situation, allowing them to escape poverty. With support from Zoom Bangladesh, Anik is now dreaming of a brighter future.

Despite their hard work, their earnings barely cover basic food expenses, leaving them half-starved. After months of searching for better opportunities, Ayeda was noticed by Zoom Bangladesh due to her daughter’s enrollment.

Determined to improve their situation, Ayeda pursued sewing training and, after four months, received a sewing machine. Now, she makes clothes for low-income residents in her neighborhood, earning a decent income to support her family.

Zoom Bangladesh has played a vital role in alleviating her family’s poverty, and Ayeda’s dedication has made their mission successful. Her dream is to open her own tailor shop.

Skilled in cobbler work passed down through generations, Babul was unable to pursue this due to financial constraints, leaving him feeling lost.
