Abdur Rahim’s journey from station hawker to the light of education…

Abdur Rahim lives in a slum next to the Rangpur Railway Station. He is the youngest of three siblings. Although both his parents were daily wage laborers, the family lived in hardship and poverty. On top of that, his father’s gambling addiction and tendency not to work cast a dark shadow of unrest over the family. The elder brother is addicted to drugs, and the elder sister was married off as a child; the light of education has not reached their lives.

Abdur Rahim was also not allowed to go to school. He had to sell guavas and mangoes at the station every day. Yet his little heart was filled with the dream of education. But he often had to endure beatings from his father for wanting to study.

At that difficult time, Zoom Bangladesh became a light in his life. After being admitted to our Rangpur branch, Rahim’s life began a new path. Now he is a regular student in the children’s class, focused on his studies, and loved by his teachers.

Today, Rahim has a new dream in his eyes—to become an ideal police officer when he grows up. He wants to serve the country and bring back the prosperity of his family, so that there is no more poverty or unrest in their homes.

Every effort of Abdur Rahim teaches us that every child, given the opportunity, can transform their life and achieve their dreams.
